Season Of Her: Women's Takeover

Season Of Her: Women's Takeover

To celebrate Jordan Brand's debut women's collection, we did a full women's takeover on The Jump.

We invited 10 women (one for each colourway) who propel the cultural current in Toronto to share their stories. It's not just about being a "sneakerhead" or loving basketball - each woman in this group embodies elements of Michael Jordan's storyline in their own way - and that's what this collection is about: it's a statement about the role of women not just within the sneaker community, but across all disciplines.

With all of this said, it only felt right for this project to be executed by all women, so not only did we have the women in the group contribute in some way related to their professions, we also had female shooters. Anna created the concept for the set design and our artist, Tabban, designed the graphics for it. Bianca did makeup and Jade did hair. Andrea curated the playlist including some tracks from the two music artists, Kat and Kennedy. And each and everyone in this group made it come full circle with their inspiring stories.

For some more insight on what inspired this project, read Anna's piece, "Why The Jordan Women's Collection Matters" for Sole Collector.

You'll get to know these girls over the next little while. Stay tuned!

Last weekend, we visited Centre23 at 306 Yonge to trial the new Jordan XXXII "Bred" colourway that drops tomorrow, October 18.

 Jordan XXXII "Bred"

Jordan XXXII "Bred"

We were put through a basketball-focused Jordan Breakfast Club training session with Jordan master trainers Alvin and David. This allowed us to test the performance of the shoe in game-like simulated movements. From defensive shuffles to dynamic plyometric movements such as pivots to box jumps with a ball, we were able to get a feel of the shoe itself.

Wait on episode 1 for our first impressions of the Jordan XXXII.

Following the workout, we switched up into the Jordan XII "Bordeaux" that dropped the next day. Beautiful shoe and even more so in person, the richness of the colour tones were well executed on the suede upper.

The format we'll be following for our YouTube episodes will begin with a workout to test the performance of the shoe, followed by a group discussion about the shoe itself and sneaker culture as a whole. It was fun to gain insights from the group given that it's such a diverse collection of people - you'll meet them soon. We have guys who've been playing ball since they could walk, guys who like sneakers but don't identify as "sneakerheads", guys who weren't even alive during the Jordan era (most of them - haha) and we were also lucky enough to be able to kick it with sneaker YouTube celebrity Jacques Slade aka Kustoo and sneaker OG Nick Engvall of Complex, Sole Collector, Sneaker History and more.

We then wrapped it up in Custo - they just launched Jordan patches. Visit the Jordan store at 306 Yonge in Toronto to customize your own gear, free with any Jordan store purchase.

Patch options available at Jordan 306 Yonge.
